We have all heard about the damaging effects stress can have on our health but are we really aware of the signs our body gives us? Some of those signs are very difficult to detect. The following 9 are one of the most common signs that you are overstressed:
Sleeping issues
If you have noticed a change in your sleep patterns, or you are fatigued and need to sleep too much, there is a chance you are overstressed and you need to make a change in your lifestyle.
Sleeping is the body’s way to manage the stress but if it is disrupted it could seriously affect your health. In this case you need to find the cause of the stress and try to relax as much as possible by practicing yoga and meditation, exercising, and following a healthy diet plan.
Hair loss
“People shed about 100 hairs a day. Most people don’t even notice.
Sometimes, a significant stress of sort may spark a change in your body’s routine physiological functions, and cause a disproportionate number of hairs to go into the resting phase at the same time.
Then three to four months later, sometimes longer, all those resting hairs are shed. The effect can be alarming. The types of events that disrupt the normal hair cycle can be caused by the substantial physiological stresses on your body.” – said Carolyn Jacob, MD, who is founder and medical director of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology. She added that if you start losing your hair, you need to examine stress levels and find out the cause of the stress.
Major mood swings
Stress can also have a negative impact on your hormone levels, causing mood swings. This can also lead to anxiety, addictions, OCDs or other mental health issues. To prevent this from happening make sure you talk to a professional about how to deal with stress.
Weight fluctuations
Being stressed can slow down your metabolism causing you to gain weight, or it can reduce your appetite causing you to lose weight. Either way, you need to look for the cause of the problem and to find a proper treatment.
Pain in the body
Most people, when they feel pain, just ignore it which is a big mistake. Feeling pain could be a sign of a serious health issue caused by stress such as, chest pain, stomach issues, ulcers, diarrhea, tense muscles etc.
If you are constantly stressed out your headaches will become even more unbearable and your arthritis will worsen. In case this happens you should act immediately to reduce stress levels otherwise your body will not be able to recover.
Inability to sit still
If you are restless, anxious and overall uncomfortable it means you are overstressed. Work on soothing your mind and try not to avoid the problem because it only gets bigger if left unsolved.
Constantly thinking about your job
Overthinking about your job will only cause even more stress. In order to relax your mind find something you enjoy doing and at that time focus only on your free-time. Spending time with the people you love can also reduce stress levels.
Weakened libido
As we already mentioned, stress affects your hormones, so increasing stress levels means less hormones for sexual response. To resolve this issue try relaxation techniques and discuss the problem with your partner, otherwise, you will be unable to experience intimacy.
Little patience for others
If you burst even at the smallest things maybe it is time to take a break from your responsibilities even for a while. Being impatient, angry, intolerant and irritated could seriously affect your everyday life and relationships.
