When a body is too acidic it is more prone to illnesses, bacteria and yeast infections. The minerals from the bones and vital organs are used to neutralize and eliminate the acid from the body which results in deficiency of minerals such as calcium, sodium, magnesium and potassium. This process causes acidosis which is poor pH balance that leads to health problems such as:
- Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
- Stiff neck, lumbago, sciatica
- Cavities, inflamed and sensitive gums
- Immune deficiency
- Ache and allergies
- Kidney and bladder infections
- Premature aging
- Sleepiness, headaches, and confusion
- Chronic fatigue and low energy
- Yeast fungal overgrowth
- Bone spurs, hip fractures, weak brittle bones, Osteoporosis
- Cardiovascular damage
- Accelerated free radical damage
- Lactic acid accumulation, aching muscles and joint pain
- Increased heart rate, arrhythmias, heart problems
- Respiratory problems, coughing and shortness of breath
Is the body able to balance pH levels on its own?
The normal pH value of most of our body is alkaline but it is normal for it to vary, except for the blood whose pH value must be kept very low always.
When a system in our body becomes too acidic the blood will transfer alkaline forming elements from the small intestine which answers the question – the body IS able to balance pH levels by itself. However when the blood does this too often other health issues may occur.
Normal pH levels
By taking pH level tests you can determine your acidity levels.
Normal level – 6.75-7.25
Perfect reading – 7.36
Taste does not determine if a food is alkaline or acidic
Lemons are thought to be acidic because of their taste; however they belong in the group of alkaline forming foods. When digested, the lemon acids get oxidized to water and CO2 which does not create an acidic environment for the body. Minerals that have alkalizing properties include: potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium and sodium. Scientists have discovered that the higher the amount of acidic mineral in a food, the more acidic it is and vice versa – the higher the amount of alkalizing minerals the more alkaline it is.
The body has a limit
Even if it is able to restore pH levels on its own, the body can fail if this happens too often and as a result diseases can occur. If you eat too many acidic foods your body will eventually stop being able to restore pH values to alkaline and will become acidic itself. So you need follow a balanced diet to prevent this from happening.
How does the body response to certain foods?
Your body responds differently depending on your body’s dominant constitutional type. For example, vegetables and fruits make an oxidative body type more acidic and foods rich in protein make it alkaline.
How to improve my body’s alkalinity
- Drink lots of water
- Test your body’s pH regularly
- Avoid acidic and processed foods
- Avoid soda, sugars, coffee instead drink herbal tea and coffee, and green drinks
- Consume almond or coconut milk instead of dairy
- Consume more green juices and smoothies
- Use collard greens and lettuce leaves as wraps
- Eat green salad instead of your usual lunch
