Aphtous ulcers, also known as canker sores, are an oral health issue which can appear anywhere in the oral cavity. The pain caused by them is not intensive in the beginning, but it increases after a couple of days. In order to prevent the pain from becoming unbearable it is important to act fast with the right treatment.
One of the natural ways to treat canker sores is using salt. Rinse your mouth with a solution of 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 glass of water, and then spit it out. Salt absorbs fluids from the damaged tissue and speeds up the healing process. You should repeat this procedure a few times during the day to heal the wound faster.
There are also some other natural remedies that can treat canker sores such as:
Baking Soda
Take 1 teaspoon of baking soda and add a few drops of water to it in order to make a paste, and then apply the paste on the canker sore. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. This treatment should be done 3-4 times during the day. Baking soda works by neutralizing the acidity and relieving the pain and also the inflammation that canker sores cause.
Aloe Vera
Take a fresh aloe Vera leaf, extract the gel from it and apply it on the tissue 3-4 times during the day. Aloe Vera has fights the inflammation, bacteria and also accelerates the healing process.
Honey
Apply honey around the canker sore a few times during the day. Due to the antiseptic and antibacterial properties of the honey, it may hurt a little in the beginning but the pain goes away in just a few minutes.
Sage
Boil 2 cups of water and then put 3 teaspoons of sage leaves, let it cool for 10-15 minutes and rinse your mouth with it. Sage not only treats canker sores, it also gives instant pain relief.
Coriander
Boil a handful of coriander leaves in a glass of water, strain the fluid and let it cool. You should use it 3-4 times a day to enjoy the anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antifungal properties that coriander has.
