Turmeric is a spice which is not only used as a flavor enhancer, but for its medicinal properties too for example in treating digestive problems and inflammation. It has been used for centuries by Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. The health benefits of turmeric have been proven by more than 7000 studies.
Turmeric is an incredible spice which should be included in your everyday diet. We are surrounded by harmful toxins which are present in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. These toxins have very negative effects for our wellbeing because they disrupt the endocrine system and damage vital organs such as the heart, liver or kidneys. Luckily, turmeric can provide protection from all these harmful compounds.
David Frawley and Prashanti De Heger have published a book called “The Ayurvedic Spice of Life” where they listed the following properties of turmeric:
- Anti-tumor
- Bactericide
- Cancer preventative
- Herbicide
- Antiulcer
- Insecticidal
- Antispasmodic
- Antiseptic
- Antibacterial
- Fungicide
- Antiallergenic
- Antiviral
- Anti-inflammatory
If you consume turmeric every day you can experience the following benefits:
Improved gut health
By eating turmeric you stimulate the gut which is very important because there are mood-stabilizing hormones in it which prevent mood swings.
Reduced inflammation
Turmeric is excellent in treating inflammation due to the active compound it contains called curcumin. This compound has the same effects that anti-inflammatory drugs have, without the harmful side-effects such as ulcers, reduced white blood cell count or even internal bleeding.
Improved mental health
Turmeric helps you focus better and clear your mind. According to some experts, consuming turmeric has the power to prevent neurodegenerative diseases including depression, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease etc.
