Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis which is characterized by recurring attacks of red, tender, hot and swollen joint. The pain occurs suddenly usually in the big toe first which becomes sore, red and tender. This condition is caused by accumulation of large amounts of uric acid in the joints because waste is not properly removed from the body.
Uric acid forms as a byproduct of purines which are found in many foods. Very often people who have gout also have higher levels of uric acid in the bloodstream. Uric acid crystallization happens when the kidneys are not able to remove the uric acid from the body which causes the uric acid to pile up around the joints thus cause inflammation.
Fortunately there are different ways to solve and treat this problem such as making changes in your lifestyle such as eating healthier and exercising more often. Your diet should include fruits and vegetables, unprocessed grains, seafood and lean meat. Try to avoid or completely remove processed sugars such as high fructose, foods rich in saturated fats and alcohol.
It is very important to keep your body hydrated at all times so you should never forget to drink enough water. Drinking water helps your body to remove toxins and to prevent uric acid crystallization. Besides water, herbal tea, natural sugar-free drinks and fruit-infused water are also a great option.
