Earwax is the body’s way to protect the ears; however it is rather unpleasant when it builds up. We want to keep our ears as clean as possible, but removing the earwax too often could lead to very painful ear infections.
In case you suffer from earache, before taking painkillers for the pain try a more natural approach. Keep reading to find out how to naturally remove the earwax and hot to treat earache.
Ear infections are usually caused by:
- Higher-than-normal temperatures outside
- Higher humidity
- Exposure to moisture for a long time
People who are most susceptible to ear infections are those who live in hot and humid places, swimmers as well as people who get water in their ears while taking a bath because fungi and bacteria breed in moist environments.
Protect your ears from water entering them while taking showers and use earplugs while swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving.
In case you still get water in the ears try draining it out by tilting your head or use a towel to dry them.
The following are the symptoms of ear infections caused by fungi and bacteria. If you experience some of these symptoms you should visit a doctor to get the proper treatment.
- Pain
- Hearing loss
- A feeling of a plugged ear
- Tenderness
- A feeling of an ear filled with fluid
- Itching
The ears actually have their own mechanism for cleaning the earwax. The earwax buildup is a result from cleaning the ears with cotton swabs that only causes the earwax to get deeper into the canal.
Earwax buildup symptoms are:
- Drainage
- Pain
- Itchiness
- Reduced hearing
- Dizziness
- Feeling of a plugged ear
- Ringing in the ear
The following remedy is made from natural ingredients that are cheap and can be found in almost every home. This remedy helps treat an earache, it eliminates the earwax and also prevents ear infections.
You only need two ingredients
- olive oil
- garlic oil
Procedure
Take 2-3 tablespoons of pure olive oil and warm it up. Make sure it is not too hot so that you don’t burn and damage your eardrum. The best temperature is the one similar to your body temperature which is about 98.6°F.
The garlic oil destroys the bacteria that cause the infections.
Before adding the garlic oil to the olive oil, test it to see if it causes skin irritation.
If it does not, add 4 drops of it to the olive oil. Stir the mixture and using an eyedropper pick some of it and then apply a few drops in the ear. Make sure your head is tilted in a way the oil is able to stay inside for at least 5-10 minutes.
Use:
This remedy takes more tries to work so you should repeat the procedure for 2-3 times a day. After 3-5 days of using it the earwax will become dissolved and the blockage will be broken up.
Additional tips:
Avoid using soap and water to clean your ears because they have their own cleaning mechanisms. Don’t make conclusions about your diagnose too soon because ear infection and earwax buildup symptoms are very similar. Using this remedy will prevent further complications if you start using it as soon as you notice the first symptoms.
However, it is always better to get a proper diagnosis first by an audiologist or otolaryngologist.
