Laurel or bay leaves are commonly used in the kitchen as a spice. However, these healthy leaves have also been used since Roman times for their numerous health benefits. They have the ability to slow down aging, regulate diabetes, improve heart health, reduce inflammation, detoxify the body, speed up wound healing and protect from bacterial infections. Also, they are excellent for alleviating respiratory issues, optimizing digestion and they can even prevent cancer.
Bay leaves are usually added in dishes such as whole soups and stews. They should not be consumed so they are only applied topically. The bay leaf oil can even be used to treat skin conditions.
