Crocs are very popular nowadays and can be found in almost every household. Some people find them ugly others enjoy wearing them because they are comfortable, however recent studies have linked these plastic shoes with serious health issues.
These shoes first appeared on the market in the early 2000’s but became popular a decade later. People are using them as indoor footwear, sandals or as an alternative to flip-flops. Even though they are comfy you should know that they can be very harmful for your health.
Crocs and foot health
Dr. Meagan Leahy, a podiatrist, claims that Crocs are not suitable footwear because they don’t support the heel properly. She claims that these shoes should not be worn as a replacement for proper footwear. She also says that wearing this type of shoes can make the toes grip thus lead to tendinitis, toe deformities, nail issues and calluses.
Crocs and cancer
A team of German scientists have conducted a study in which they performed a lab analysis on the rubber used to make crocs and other shoes similar to them. They have discovered that the rubber contains high amounts of cancerous substances that get absorbed in our bodies through the skin. It was also discovered that 6 in 10 pairs of these shoes contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which are cancerous chemicals. These chemicals have been proven to increase the risk of lung, liver and skin cancer.
Moreover, these shoes can also lead to allergic reactions and skin irritation. This is why you should stop wearing them immediately and also make sure you tell your loved ones about this, particularly small children. In case you still want to wear them always buy the original Crocks instead of cheap knock-offs which are full of cancerous chemicals.
Also, next time you go shopping for Crocs pay attention on the way they smell. If they release strong and sweet smell avoid them because they are probably full of harmful chemicals.
