Even though poop is considered a taboo subject, you should know that it reveals a lot about your health and there are some aspects that you should be aware of regarding this matter. Defecation is one of the bodily functions that are absolutely normal. Changes in your diet could cause changes in bowel movement. However, it could also indicate that the body is fighting an infection or it could be a sign of a much more serious health condition.
The stool is made up of fiber, different cells, mucus, dead and living bacteria and the rest it 75% water. The normal poop is usually whole and elongated, it is smooth and soft. The shape of the poop comes from the shape of the lower intestine which should look like the letter S. The color of a healthy poop ranges from light to medium brown.
The other types of poop and their meaning are explained below:
- Small and hard lumpy poop
This type of poop is usually 1-2 centimeters; it is small, abrasive and solid. It could indicate acute inflammation of the small intestine. People who are taking antibiotics may have this type of poop and it can also cause anal bleeding.
- Sausage shaped poop with lumps
This type of poop can also cause anal bleeding because it is very difficult to pass. People who suffer from IBS are more likely to have this type of poop which is usually 3-5 cm in diameter.
- Sausage shaped poop with cracked surface
Although it looks very similar to the previous one, this type of poop is passed much faster.
- Sausage-shaped soft poop with smooth surface
A normal type of poop that is usual for people who defecate once daily.
- Soft blogs with defined edges
It is common for people who defecate more than once a day, especially after large meals.
- Fluffy poop with ragged and torn edges
This type of stool has a soft texture. It could indicate stress and hypertension.
- Diarrhea-type
It is similar to diarrhea but it actually related to constipation. It could indicate a certain disease or condition depending on the odor and color.
- Black or bright red stool
A sign of bleeding in the gastro-intestinal tract
- Pale brown or white stool
Indicates hepatitis, pancreatic disease or cirrhosis
- Yellow-colored
Common in people who suffer from issues related to the gallbladder.
The strong unpleasant smell of poop can indicate:
