In case you dry your laundry indoors often, keep reading to find out very important information regarding this common habit. Drying your laundry indoors can be very harmful for your health particularly for people with weak immune system or severe asthma.
Why is drying laundry indoors a bad thing?
While the laundry is drying inside it increases the moisture levels in your home by even up to 30 percent. A moist environment is perfect for the mold spores to breed in. In most of the homes where laundry is dried inside the fungal mold called Aspergillus fumingatus is found. This type of mold causes respiratory infections.
Professor David Denning from the National Aspergillosis Centre in Manchester claims that there are many patients who have experienced issues after inhaling the spores from the Aspergillus fungi. The majority of people don’t have any problem after inhaling the spores; however those with compromised immunity are not able to fight the infection that efficiently.
People who have asthma can experience coughing and wheezing as a result of drying laundry inside. Cancer patients and people with an autoimmune disease can also experience the same problems. This fungus can even cause pulmonary aspergillosis which is a condition that can sometimes even be deadly, or it can cause permanent and irreparable damage to the lungs and sinuses.
One man called Craig Mather suffered from tuberculosis in 1997. During this time his lungs and immune system became weak. So, he was unable to fight the fungus which eventually led to chronic pulmonary aspergillosis. He inhaled the fungus because he used to dry his clothes on the bedroom radiator. As soon as he discovered what was the reason for his problem he stopped drying his laundry inside and his condition improved soon after.
Try not to make the same mistake as millions of people do because it can be fatal. Try to hang your clothes outside most of the time or at least put them in a well-ventilated area in case you want to dry them inside.
